Niranjana Swami – the leader of Mayapur’s electricity mafia

Today, we are continuing to investigate the honest GBC mafia and the perils of the dummy members of their society.

Well, everybody needs money to live. And the easiest way to live is to be a leech on somebody’s back. He works and brings the money, and you just suck out his money. This is how the GBC mafia operates. Either give your money voluntarily as a donation to the pure mafia devotees, or your money will be taken away from you by force.

During the COVID pandemic, pure mafia devotees are forced to keep a low profile, no extensive traveling. To instead of sucking out donations from the poor working householders, they need to find other means to maintain their wretched existence. And as the law of parampara teaches us, mafia guru is always followed by mafia disciples.

Today, we are looking at Niranjana Swami, who is now living for many months in the Rasamrta Kunj property. He is living in the house of his disciple Vraja Kumar, whose favorite pastime is robbing Rasamrta Kunj residents by overcharging electricity.

You see, in banana a corrupt banana republic such as India, you can connect the whole apartment complex to only one meter. Vraja Kumara used this loophole to cheat all Rasamrta Kunj residents. He is using electricity paid by the current owners to build more buildings. Vraja Kumar installed unofficial submeters in each apartment and he is charging 10.3 Rs per unit of electricity, while price of one unit of electricity in Mayapur is 6 Rs, so, this is over 70% more expensive.

Therefore, Vraja Kumara will not ever give you any breakdown or calculation of the electricity cost. He will just write a number of how much need to pay, no questions asked. You are now able to get any more information.

So, how much is the electricity in Rasamrta Kunj? Well, it’s more than double the price that you would get if you had your own meter. People who use AC end up paying from 9000 to 12000 rupees. And this is exactly the price of rent. So, do you know any country where rent for a brand new apartment costs the same as electricity for that apartment?

Meters are very offensive

Some residents of Rasamrta Kunj are trying to install their own meters, however, mafia guy Vraja Kumara is not allowing them to do it. So, up until today, not a single Rasamrta Kunj resident managed to install their own meter.

Vraja Kumar is also threatening electricians, the thread is that “If you help this guy install his own meter, you will not get any more work on the new buildings”.

It all goes over the back of the poor guys

The scheme is the following. Many rich western people bought Rasamrta Kunj apartments in order to rent them and make money. Vraja is helping them by finding tenants. Rich owners of the apartment don’t care about electricity bills because they are not paying them.

People who don’t have their own apartments are forced to rent, and they are the ones paying double electricity.

The promise of purification

Through the process of Krishna consciousness, Srila Prabhupada hoped to transform the fallen condition of the residents of Kali-yuga. He often wrote in his books, that once a person starts following Krishna consciousness, “all good qualities will manifest automatically”, but only under one condition: that we are sincere, honest, and straightforward. Crooked people will never get mercy.

Now, we are providing email by Rasamrita Kunj resident which explains government pricing:

Indeed we are in complete agreement with the mail by Patita pavana prabhu.

The argument that within ISKCON campus an unit is charged 15Rs so there fore it is OK for Rasamrta Kunj to charge 9Rs or 10 rs fly is INVALID.
Firstly the ISKCON campus does not allow ownership of the apartments so one cannot have their own electric meter.
Secondly there is constant electricity supply no matter how long the government electricity is off.

But this is NOT the situation at all with the Rasamrta Kunj apartments! Here individuals own the apartments. And thus….. We strongly suggest that the management team of RasamritaKunj arrange for individual electric meters. This is the ONLY best option to stop all miscalculations regarding electricity issue.

The government has made some funny rules. As long as the total consumed units are below 100 then unit rate is say x rupees. Then if units are above 100 and below 300 then it is 2x.
So as the consumed units increase the unit rate also increases.

If this is the case, and if we don’t have individual meters then there is a lot of problem with the payment issue. For example: suppose I have consumed say 50 units of electricity in a month and others in our building have consumed 600 units of electricity in that month,
Since the units have crossed 500, the rate of an unit increases say from 6rs to 12rs.
The problem here is that I also have to pay 12rs per unit though I have only consumed 50 units overall. If I had my own individual meter then my unit rate will be JUST 6rs..!
Why should I pay for other’s consumption of electricity? Why should we pay double/ triple
the rates? This is not helpful.

This is a serious issue. Please look into the matter.

Dear Rasamrita Kunj residents,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

We are sorry for inconviniences created by charging for whatever current electricity bills we received from the government.

From our side we are trying our best to make your stay at Rasamrita Kunj as comfortable as possible. Though since we are at the very begining of Rasamrita Kunj existence as residential community certaing things may take some time to settle down and function smoothly. And to achieve that we need your support, cooperation and understanding. No one here has intention to cheat devotees staying at Rasamrita Kunj or take any advantage of situation.

Eventually every apartment will have it’s own meter installed after apartment owners will submit required documents and pay deposit and installation fees to the government.

There are some technical and burecraucy issues we are facing to be able to achieve that.

We want to avoid connecting buildings to the government overhead electrical lines because there will be many tall trees on the site. Initially it was planned that electricity will be connected to each building by underground cables as it was planned by our electric consultants.

We approached local government electrical office with request to allow connect electricity to the buildings by underground cables. They refused our request saying that it is not allowed which is not true.

After Gaura Purnima festival we will continue our efforts to get proper electrical connection.

Though if 75% of residents of Kamyavan, Madhuvan and Talavan buildings will insist that electrical posts with overhead electrical lines to be placed between these three buildings or next to them to provide government electrical connection to each of these buildings immediately we have no issues with that. It may look ugly though because electrical posts would have to be placed in Damodara Park and some trees there in future would have to be cut.

This is called polite mafia. In order to fully grasp the horror of the moment, you need to understand that these emails are from 2017. So, for the full 4 years, they didn’t do anything although in the email they claim that “No one here has the intention to cheat devotees staying at Rasamrita Kunj or take any advantage of the situation.” This is exactly what they are doing.

Then, in 2021, you get no more polite emails about installing meters “very soon”, they are sending emails like this by which their higher prices are the “new norm”. The member of the mafia now is Visnu Murti das, the owner of the Wikipedia page:

To clarify even more some points of our conversation yesterday, I explained that there was no longer a them/us situation as now there was only US – the owners who were in taking charge of the maintenance.

I also explained how we have lots of debt and thus all of the owners need to help at least by paying their current bills to the maintenance agency so that we will not have our utilities cut off.

I also mentioned that the administrators of RAS are stuggling to get grips with the electricity services, and to date we have not found that there is any profits coming from it, rather we are still paying off debts.

Regarding what we agreed upon. You refused to pay the electricity bill that you received, so as a compromise I agreed that you pay the amount per unit that you consider valid and the rest will remain as a debt that you have. My logic is better to get something rather than nothing. I let you decide the amount (6 rupees) as I did not have any other information to judge whether it could have been 7 or 8 etc.

After our conversation I checked the amount that you owe for the electricity. The bill was for 6980 rupees if I am not mistaken. This was for 534.80 units charged at 13.05 rupees a unit. The reason why the 13.05 rupees per unit is that the difference from 10.30 rupees was because of late payment by your good self.

To put things into perspective the 534.80 units is for 5 months of electricity consumption. This makes 106.96 units a month.
If you had been paying your bills timely then your monthly payment for electricity over the last 5 months would have been anaverage of 1,102 rupees a month (charged at 10.30 a unit)

Your insistance to pay only 6 rupees per unit means you will make a payment of 642 rupees per month. This is a difference of 420 rupees per month or 5040 rupees a year.

Now, they no longer claim that they will install government meters, now it is all about enforcing their overinflated, imagined prices. And 4 years later, they still didn’t allow anyone to install even one government meter. This is how the mafia operates. Only a criminal mind can overcharge electricity for years and then say “I also mentioned that the administrators of RAS are stuggling to get grips with the electricity services, and to date we have not found that there is any profits coming from it, rather we are still paying off debts.”  How can you overcharge electricity by over 100% and then claim that there is debt? Obviously the money meant for electricity was stolen. You don’t have to be genius to figure that out. Taking into consideration that Rasamrta Kunj has over 100 apartments, this is pretty efficient robbery.

And just to clear any doubts, here is an actual invoice based on a government meter from the nearby apartment:

This guy was charged 897 rupees for 176 units of electricity, you can calculate how much is that per unit. It is less than 6 rupees, while mafia in the above email is charging 13.6 rupees. Mafia says: “The reason why the 13.05 rupees per unit is that the difference from 10.30 rupees was because of late payment by your good self.” In other words, we are charging you a bigger price because you didn’t pay our mafia prices on time. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The thing I like about the Mayapur mafia is that they are very polite. They are starting their extortion request by saying “Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.” They are calling you “your good self”, damn, they will probably be polite while they kill you also. I am impressed.

Niranjana Swami – I am planning to do nothing

Of course, we might wonder if maybe Niranjana Swami didn’t know that he is staying the house of mafia guy VrajaKumar. Maybe he didn’t even know what Vraja Kumar is robbing people. Well, he did know, and he knew it from the very beginning, as this email proves.

Here was my letter to Guru-seva dd, who had originally forwarded Patita-Pavana Nitai Gaura Dasa’s letter to me and then forwarded this letter to him. Please note that which has been underlined (both above and below) for emphasis:

“Honestly speaking, my experience with these matters is that there are always two sides to everyone’s story. I spend my life dealing with two sides of everyone’s story. That’s one of the curses of being on the GBC body. I’ve accepted it as my duty in service to Srila Prabhupada.

In other words, I have to constantly deal with the misbehavior, not only of my disciples, but even more frequently, of devotees other than those who took initiation from me. Their spiritual master’s don’t deal with it. I have to accept the burden as the GBC when it’s within my GBC jurisdiction. That’s the way it works in ISKCON.

But when somebody puts me in this kind of position by demanding I investigate their complaints in my role as somebody’s spiritual master, that goes over the top for me.

I won’t investigate this. It is not within my realm of responsibility. In fact it’s not even a local GBC matter. Many local GBC’s have recommended the services of ISKCON Resolve (or it’s trained representatives) to deal with issues between one devotee and another, especially in this case as it is an issue between two private individuals neither of whom are representative in any way of ISKCON management. If this devotee does decide to go through the proper channels for resolving his issues, I could then try to encourage Vraja Kumar dasa to take part in the mediation process with him. That much I believe I could do.

For now, what I can say is that if this devotee insists that I deal with his problem when I’m in Mayapura, I won’t complain. Neither will I become angry at him. However, I will likely just pack my bags and leave Mayapura as quickly as possible. I have my limits when it comes to complaints.

I’m sorry if this letter disappoints you. You are certainly not being chastised here for doing the “wrong” thing. You thought you did that which was right, and that’s how I see it. As you know, I respect your sincerity since I’m convinced of your sincere motives. But what I’ve tried to explain here to you (and should you wish to share my explanation with your friend… to him too) is that there are established norms for dealing with such issues and this approach, by expecting me to deal with it, is not the way to go about it.”

Conclusion

The mafia guru decided to defend his disciple through a standard mayavadi point that “every story has two sides”. So, there is no right and wrong, there is no proper electricity pricing, there is no justice, there are just “stories” that have two sides. And Niranjana Swami has his story also. His story is that he continues to live in Vraja Kumara’s house, leading a pleasant life of leech and writing his mayavadi books.

Sweet dreams, and, as an ISKCON member, don’t forget: Never offend pure devotees like Niranjana Swami, never doubt that Niranjana Swami is staying only at the houses of his most confidential servants and his most advanced disciples.

And Vraja Kumara is truly trained as an efficient criminal. Overcharging electricity for 4 years is not an easy feat to pull off. You need a lot of dumb people who will not break into your house and trash everything inside, including your fake guru.
